Many people do not realize that the majority of non-profit organizations get their funding from individuals. According to Giving USA, in 2013, individuals accounted for 72% of all giving or over $335 billion. Fundraising is a challenge for most, if not all charities, but it is even more challenging for animal charities. The same report revealed that out of all contributions made to non-profit organizations, only 3% was allocated to the animal welfare and environment sector.
Another fact many people are not aware of is that both orangutans and chimpanzees are endangered species. As one of many animal charities, the Center for Great Apes stands apart as the only accredited orangutan sanctuary in North America.
The Center receives no government funding and relies on the generosity of individuals like you in order to fulfill its mission to provide a permanent sanctuary for orangutans and chimpanzees. CGA’s apes were either retired from the entertainment industry, research, or are no longer wanted as exotic pets. 100% of all donations made to the Center for Great Apes go directly to the care of the orangutan and chimpanzee residents and the operation of the sanctuary.
As one of the smallest funded sectors, we hope you’ll realize the importance of giving to animal charities like the Center for Great Apes. There are many ways you can help. You can become a sanctuary member, adopt an ape or become a monthly giving partner. For a full list of ways you can offer support, visit How You Can Help.
